Beauregard became the first General Officer of the Confederate States. He was appointed Brigadier General in the provisional army the the South.

Major Robert Anderson, Beauregard's former professor at West Point, surrendered Fort Sumpter after a siege that lasted a little over a month, making Beauregard the hero of Fort Sumter.
July 21, 1861
Beauregard played an instrumental role in the victory at Bull Run, where he provided the necessary troops and inspirational speeches to break the Union line.
June 2, 1864
His greatest achievement was saving the industrial city, Petersburg Virginia and Richmond Virginia against overwhelming Union forces.

Beauregard died at the age of 74 of natural causes.
